The Freedom Taillight Project is a harm reduction effort that was formed by a group of community members, activists, and allies in Akron, OH in the wake of the murder of Jayland Walker at the hands of the Akron Police Department.

Jayland was pulled over for a cracked taillight and lost his life to police brutality and racism on June 27th, 2022. The Freedom Taillight Project acknowledges that nonwhite community members are more likely to be pulled over by police for small infractions and are more likely to face bodily harm, violence, or even death at the hands of the police as a result.

By performing minor car repairs including taillight, backup light, and headlight bulb replacements, we are able to improve the safety of our community members while also reducing the financial burden of transportation.
